Premiere of the film “The World on the Edge. Lessons from the Caribbean Crisis»

On October 30, 2022, Channel One aired the premiere of the documentary film “The World on the Edge. Lessons from the Caribbean Crisis”, dedicated to the study of the causes and consequences of the events of 60 years ago.

For the first time, the film presents declassified archival documents that explain the true causes of the Caribbean crisis, reveals the details of a secret operation to deliver Soviet nuclear missiles to Cuba, describes the actions of the parties to resolve the crisis, which ultimately reduced the risk of the outbreak of World War III.

Analysts admit that the scenario of the Caribbean crisis can hypothetically repeat itself: this time, the catalyst for confrontation is NATO’s desire to continue its expansion to the east. Moreover, the current situation, according to experts, is much more dangerous.

The film was prepared by the Patriot National Film Foundation and the Russian Historical Society with the support of the Fatherland History Foundation. The experts included Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, MGIMO Rector Anatoly Torkunov, Chairman of the Duma Committee on Defense Andrey Kartapolov, General Director of MNIIPU Alexander Ageev and others.
